The Advisory Council for the Sustainable Development of Catalonia (CADS) is a joint body set up in 1998 whose role is to advise the Catalan Government on sustainable development and especially on mainstreaming sustainability in its policies, regional and sector planning instruments, legislative and regulatory drafts and strategic projects and initiatives.<\/p>

It also scrutinises the Government\u2019s strategic policies for sustainable development, especially in energy, water, food security, climate change and the green economy, and draws up proposals in these areas as well as advising on the design and implementation of actions to promote education for sustainability.<\/p>

Finally, CADS fosters knowledge transfer and discussion between the Catalan Government, academia and civil society in sustainable development and the engagement of economic and social sectors in the country\u2019s sustainable development process. The Consortium for Environmental Policies of Terres de l\u2019Ebre (COPATE) delivers services to Terres de l\u2019Ebre local councils in waste collection, sanitation, public health, forestry management and management of the Terres de l\u2019Ebre, Biosphere Reserve brand. With offices in Amposta and Tortosa, it has around thirty employees and a threefold commitment: to people, local authorities and most of all to the region.<\/p>

CREAF is a public research centre specialising in terrestrial ecology and territorial analysis which produces knowledge and methodologies for conserving, managing and adapting natural heritage to environmental challenges.<\/p>

CREAF employs some 200 people engaged in studying biodiversity, climate change, ecosystem functioning and earth observation. The Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation (FCLP) is a private non-profit foundation based in the La Pedrera building (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). It works proactively to help build a better and fairer future for people.<\/p>

It operates mainly in social wellbeing, culture, nature and the environment, knowledge and education, food and nutrition.<\/p>

The FCLP is also a leader in fostering talent, scientific, technological and environmental careers, and educational support to expand opportunities. The FCLP is also the largest private forest owner in Catalonia with its groundbreaking \u201cNature Areas Network\u201d, a private protected network of 27 natural areas (over 8,000 hectares) designed to preserve their natural heritage, restore and enhance biodiversity and landscapes and provide job opportunities for people living near them. All these sites are part of the Nature 2000 network and welcome over 400,000 visitors a year. The Ebro Observatory is a research institute founded in 1904 to study the relations between the Sun and the planet Earth. Nowadays it also conducts geophysical research and observation with two internationally competitive research strands, one studying Geomagnetism and Aeronomy and the other Physical Hydrology and Climate Change.<\/p>

SEO\/BirdLife is the oldest environmental NGO in Spain. Founded in 1954, our mission has been the same ever since: with birds as our banner, we seek to conserve biodiversity through the engagement and involvement of society. Our interest is human wellbeing and the conservation of the natural world. At SEO\/BirdLife we empower nature and give wings to the public.
